In this week’s video, I’m guiding you through a great technique that you can use when you are feeling overwhelmed and tired. It activates the left and right sides of the brain and helps them work together.
It uses the sound “Ong.” Ong is like Om, the vibrational sound of the universe, but in a more active, creative form.
You can do this sitting in a chair or on the floor. First, making your right hand into a fist. Extending your index finger straight up and using it to close off your right nostril. Opening your mouth and touching the tip of your tongue to your upper palate. Inhaling and then begin making and holding the sound Ong as long as you can. You’ll feel a vibration in your nose and your palate. (It feels pretty neat! Give it a try) When you run out of breath, inhale and begin again.
After 90-seconds, we will switch and do the same thing on the other side.
This technique can be found in Mahankirn Kaur’s Three Min Start – https://www.mahankirn.com/.

If panic or anxiety is a part of your life, it can be helpful to have tools to turn to when signs arise. The breathwork meditation I’ll be guiding you through can help quiet and calm both the physical and emotional aspects of anxiety.
Practicing this meditation (or others like it) on a daily basis can help you become skilled enough that when panic strikes, the technique will come more easily and you can begin using it right away.
This meditation can be done sitting in a chair or on the floor. Placing your left hand flat against your chest with the right palm flat on top of it. Both thumbs are pointing up. Opening your mouth, puckering your lips and extending your tongue slightly beyond the lips. If you are able, curling the tongue into a “u” shape (like in Sitali Pranayam). You’ll be inhaling through your nose and exhaling through your rolled tongue.
We’ll practice for three minutes in this video. On your own, you can build up your practice to 31 minutes.
This video is not intended to be a substitute for professional or treatment. If anxiety or panic is an ongoing issue for you, please seek the advice of a mental health professional or other qualified health provider.
This meditation can be found in The YOGA-CBT Workbook for Anxiety by Julie Greiner-Ferris, LICSW and Manjit Kaur Khalsa, EdD.

Join me for another one of my absolute favorite meditations—a self-affirmation to help you believe in yourself and feel you are worthy.
The mantra is:
Me within me is the purity
Me within me is the reality
Me within me is the grace
I am the master of the space
You can sit in a chair on the floor, as long as you keep your spine straight. Bringing your hands together and interlacing them, holding them at your heart center. Your arms can be relaxed by your sides and your eyes will be closed.
We’ll be repeating the mantra in a monotone voice in this video, but my favorite way to practice this meditation is to the recording by Madhur-Nain Webster. You can find more information here: https://www.madhurnain.com/blog/me-within-me-2020.

Been sitting too long behind your computer? Take a break and enjoy some gentle meditative stretches for your shoulders, spine and neck.
You can do these stretches sitting in a chair or on the floor. Just make sure you have a little space around you for the spinal twists. You’ll have your hands on your shoulders with the fingers pointing forward and thumbs in back and twisting your head and torso left and right. We’ll also do some nice shoulder and neck rolls.
The poem that I share at the end of the video is called Whatever Doesn’t Serve by Danna Faulds.

You know there are benefits to meditating, but can’t focus/sit still/quiet your mind, etc. Does this sound familiar? Perfect! The exercise I will be guiding you through in this video is just for you! It brings inner peace and joy to those who have a hard time meditating.
If you regularly practice meditation, don’t pass this one by. I’ve found it works for me too, so give it a try!
You’ll be sitting in a comfortable position—either on the floor or in a chair—bringing your hands together so that the base of your palms touch. Your fingers are spread apart, while touching your thumbs and pinkies, so your hands are in the shape of a lotus flower. Placing your hands four to six inches in front of your forehead with your elbows apart and relaxed. This position automatically activates the meditative mind.
Your eyes will be closed… and I’ll take it from there.
