Your Moment of Calm with Ravi Pritam: Simple & effective energizing breathwork

If you are feeling a little exhausted—whether from the past couple weeks, maybe the last two years or just sporadically, I have a great technique for you. While the next nine minutes may seem very calming, when you are done, you’ll feel energized and renewed.

Sitting in a chair or on the floor, block the left nostril with the thumb of the left hand and keep the other fingers straight and pointing up. Close your eyes and take 26 long, deep breaths through the right nostril. Pretty simple, huh?

Consult your doctor before beginning any breathwork.

Your Moment of Calm with Ravi Pritam: Develop a meditative mind

Imagine yourself able to approach situations from a calmer perspective, able to make decisions objectively and with compassion. You can by developing a meditative mind. The breathwork meditation I guide you through in this video can help, simply called “Developing a Meditative Mind” from Kundalini Yoga.

It uses a whistling breath, which is very calming to the nervous system, along with specific positioning of the hands. If you can’t whistle, don’t let that deter you. Give this a try and just do your best—even if no sounds come out!

Sitting with a straight spine with your chin gently tucked and chest lifted. Using your right hand to pinch the right earlobe between your thumb and index finger. Letting your arm hang so the weight of the arm pulls the earlobe gently downward and placing your left hand over your navel.

Closing your eyes and breathing through the mouth with the inhale as a whistle.

Your Moment of Calm with Ravi Pritam: Feel calm and boost your confidence

I recently rediscovered this meditation and WOW—does it have so many benefits! In addition to calming you and helping boost your confidence levels, this meditation is said to help reduce fear and anxiety, improve your concentration, lift your spirits and enhance your energy levels.

It’s a silent meditation, so you may want to put on some soft music in the background if that will help you focus.

Ready to get started?! Sitting up straight—either in a chair or on the floor. Taking the ring and pinkie finger of each hand and folding them to your palm and using your thumb to hold them down. Your index and middle fingers are pointing straight upward. Pulling the elbows and shoulders back, creating a pressure on the spine between the shoulders and the nape of the neck and holding the hands at the level of your ears.

Closing your eyes and concentrating on the top of your head. Breathing long and deep in and out through your nose.

Your Moment of Calm with Ravi Pritam: Meditation to Awaken your Compassion

Today I’ll be guiding you through a beautiful breathwork meditation to awaken mercy and compassion. I love it because it is very calming. While the instructions may seem a little complicated, it’s actually quite simple.

Sitting tall, either on the floor or in a chair, and bringing your hands in front of your heart with the palms facing up. Bringing the pinky, ring and middle fingers of both hands so they are touching back to back and pointing toward the sky. Crossing your index fingers and extended your thumbs out straight—both are parallel to the floor. Keeping this mudra held at your heart center.

You’ll inhale through the nose in four separate sniffs—and with each sniff silently repeating the sounds SA, TA, NA, MA. Holding the breath in and silently repeating SA, TA, NA, MA. Exhaling in four separate sniffs while silently repeating SA, TA, NA, MA and then holding the breath out while silently repeating SA, TA, NA, MA.

Your eyes will be closed and focused at the third-eye point, the point between your eyebrows.

Your Moment of Calm with Ravi Pritam: Four more easy desk stretches for your workday

Join me from my work-from-home space in my kitchen as I share some yummy stretches you can use during your workday. We’ll start with a traditional yoga move, cat-cow, but while sitting in a chair. This will open up your torso and stretch your back, neck, and shoulders. We’ll follow with a nice spinal twist, torso stretch and lastly, head tilts to reduce tension in your neck and shoulders.
